hum... looks like you're right.. my strategy with different bot types did not work very well :(
Dagger bots just had fun with mines.. I'll look for something better ;)
I aggre that the new system is very volatile, i've moved from rank #6 to #88 and now back in top 20.
I don't understand why few matches have so much impact on the scores.
Your points are true about creating new matches, you do not know who will join and thats a disadvantage compare to joining a match.
I really appreciate ChunkyMonkey idea of private match invitation. Maybe a simple way to do that would be a "revenge" button, to challenge the same opponent on the same map, after updating a bit our AI.
What do you think of that ?
Hi, Sorry, didn't see the post on time!
Don't remember that game anymore :(
I just realized that I can make some imporvements on my AI, by looking at the "enemy currently targeted", thus it's easier to keep the focus on someone I allready damaged even if he's going long or out of range. Didn't know that before :p
yes, happy that my new AI get its revenge over the defeats they had against you last week ;)
I do also play sometime with my first AI to see how it performs, and it helps to see if my new changes really improves my strategy. What I do also is checking my bots on the solo camapign to make sure they still win ;)
A nice feature would be a training arena where you can fight between your own bots, that would help us understand the impact of some changes in the AI.
thanks chunkymonkey for this long explanation. Very intersting discussion !
I feel like you described exactly the different steps in my AI customization.
The "one step back in the long range killer" as you described it, was indeed my bigest problem last week as i stopped shoting them while they where killing my weakest bots.
Regarding the scoring, I'm more a "kill all then score" adept. But I do loose some matches due to that even in 3 minutes. When I manage to kill everyone but do not have enough time to go score.
For what I see now, the one who wins is the more efficient one! This means:
- limit useless shots: focus the enemy you have more chances to kill
- limit useless moves: when you move you don't shot... ;)
I've updated my bot this morning, trying to respect this 2 rules, and my new AI did almost 20 victories for 5 defeat.
That's good... till someone else find something better!
interesting portmanteur.
Indeed, when i create few matches on the multiplayer room, lets say I have 10 matches pending.
I ideally would like different people to challenge my IA, but if someone better than me see the games, he could easily challenge everyone of my 10 pending games and get 10 easy win.
Because we are abble to choose our opponents. A match making system should be better, finding the closest adversary.
Yes, or maybe it's a different one actually.

My bots are the blue ones, but the legend show my name as the red one.
This appears when watching match from log.
I'm in 4.1version on android.
Yes, Elo seems to be a better scoring system!
Adding the rank, or level of the player when joining the match would be a good idea also, as it should help you understand :
- how difficult the match could be,
- and thus how many points you could earn
At the moment, I'm always looking for the player on the dashboard after joining a match ;)
